Sila Eastern Limited, is a Thai JV company promoted by Tata Steel (49 % equity) and M/s Unistretch Ltd (G Premjee Group Company, Thailand).  The JV was formalized in March 2004, to explore and develop commercially viable deposits of limestone for sourcing/mining of low silica limestone suitable for steel making from Thailand, in view of the logistic synergy between Thailand and the east coast of India. 

In a short span of less than two years, SEL has established itself as a preferred supplier of Low Silica limestone with two of India’s leading steel plants: Tata Steel and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd., Vishakaptnam.   

Sales volume for the year 2006-07 is 700,000 MT and the company is well positioned to attain its target of One Million MT by the year 2007-08.
